QA Tester resume example

Hiring managers look for what you tested, how you tested it and what you caught. Name the product type and platform, say how much is manual and how much is automated, and give numbers for test cases, defects and release cycles. List tools by name.

A QA tester summary you can adapt

QA tester with 5 years of experience testing web and mobile applications in Agile teams. Skilled in manual and API testing, with working experience automating regression suites in Selenium and Postman.

Two or three sentences: who you are, how long you have done it, and the strongest proof. Replace the details with your own.

Bullet points that work

QA Engineer

  • Test web and Android releases of a payments app in two-week sprints, running about 350 regression cases per release.
  • Automated 120 regression cases in Selenium and Postman, cutting regression time from 3 days to 1.
  • Log 40 to 50 defects a month in Jira with steps, logs and screenshots; fewer than 5% are returned as not reproducible.
  • Review user stories with 2 product owners before each sprint to write acceptance criteria.

Junior QA Tester

  • Wrote and ran 600+ manual test cases for an HR and payroll web system used by 30 client companies.
  • Tested each monthly release on 8 browser and device combinations.
  • Found a payroll rounding defect during user acceptance testing that affected 3 client setups before go-live.

Each one says what was done and gives a number. Use your real figures; an honest small number beats a vague claim.

Only list what you can talk about in an interview, and use the same words as the job post so screening software finds them.

Tips for your QA tester resume

  • Say what you tested (web, mobile, API) and in what kind of product, such as payments, HR or e-commerce.
  • Give numbers for test cases written, defects logged and how often the team releases.
  • Separate manual and automation work, and name the automation tools and language you actually used.
  • Describe one or two defects you caught that mattered, and what they would have affected.

Common questions

How do I write a QA tester resume with no experience?+

Show testing you did in school projects, internships or practice sites: test cases written, bugs reported and tools used. A short course or ISTQB Foundation certificate also helps.

Do I need to know coding to be a QA tester?+

Not for entry-level manual testing. Basic SQL and some scripting are needed for API and automation work, so list them if you have them.

Is ISTQB certification required for QA jobs?+

Most job posts do not require it. It is useful for career shifters and new graduates because it shows you know testing terms and methods.
