Data Analyst resume example

Recruiters check your tools first, usually SQL, Excel and a dashboard tool, then look for proof that your analysis was used. For each project, say what data you worked with, what you found and what the business did about it. A link to a portfolio or GitHub helps if you are early in your career.

A data analyst summary you can adapt

Data analyst with 5 years of experience in logistics and shared services reporting. Writes SQL against tables of several million rows, builds Power BI dashboards used by operations managers, and automates recurring reports with Python.

Two or three sentences: who you are, how long you have done it, and the strongest proof. Replace the details with your own.

Bullet points that work

Data Analyst

  • Build and maintain 9 Power BI dashboards on delivery performance, used weekly by 40 hub and regional managers.
  • Analyzed 3 million delivery records to find the main causes of failed first attempts, supporting a routing change that raised first-attempt success from 81% to 88%.
  • Automated 6 weekly reports with SQL and Python, saving the team about 12 hours a week.
  • Set up data quality checks that cut duplicate and missing waybill records from 4% to under 1%.

Reports Analyst

  • Prepared daily and monthly performance reports for a 300-seat customer support account.
  • Replaced 5 manual Excel reports with one Power Query workbook, cutting preparation time from 3 hours to 30 minutes a day.
  • Ran staffing forecasts that kept weekly forecast error within 6% of actual call volume.

Each one says what was done and gives a number. Use your real figures; an honest small number beats a vague claim.

Tips for your data analyst resume

  • End analysis bullets with what changed because of your work: a decision, a saving, or a metric that moved.
  • Name the SQL dialect or database, the dashboard tool and the size of the data you handled.
  • Say who used your dashboards or reports and how often.
  • Coming from another field? Add 2 or 3 portfolio projects with real datasets and link them.

Common questions

What skills do I need on a data analyst resume?+

SQL, Excel and one dashboard tool such as Power BI or Tableau cover most job posts. Python or R, statistics and clear written communication are the next things employers look for.

How do I get a data analyst job with no experience?+

Build a small portfolio of projects using public datasets, and show the question, the method and the finding for each. Reporting, MIS and operations analyst roles are common starting points.

Should I include a GitHub or portfolio link?+

Yes, if the work in it is tidy and explained. Put the link in your contact line and make sure each project has a short write-up.
